Consistency

So Halloween is said and done with as is Diwali. I ate a good amount of junk and candy, which I don’t believe in banning myself from. However, I think I could have eaten less and still indulged.

I did stick to my gym schedule and the scale shows it. I was 219.4 this morning. I think this is the end of the 220s for good and I am very excited. I just need to stick with it and make bigger gains in the weight loss department. Eating is definitely key, so I trying to stay focused.

The thing with Indian food

So this is the middle of week 8. I have been going to the gym 4-5 weekday mornings a week (usually 5) before work. The good thing is that it seems to be a routine now and that I can still feel my muscles getting stronger.

The bad thing is that I am not losing weight. The scale stated that I was 223.5 in the beginning of the week and 220 today, which is great, however, when the weekend comes, it increases again. I know it’s related to visiting the boyfriend’s parents during the weekends and eating too much delicious Indian food. I tried to eat less over the weekend, however, his mother seemed to take it to mean that I did not like her food. This is an awesome excuse to eat lots and lots of fried Indian foods. However, I know I need to stick to the veggies and eat less of the Roti’s and other fried goodies.

This weekend will be difficult due to the boyfriend’s brother and his family being in town to celebrate the father’s birthday, which means even more eating.

My goal for this coming Monday is to be 220 or less.

Fall Time

I am on week 5 of going to the gym 5 times a week. I am a bit tired but feeling strong.

I realized in the middle of last week, when my weight loss was still stagnant, that 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes or weights/abs might not be the right ratio. I have changed it to 45 minutes of cardio with 15-20 minutes of weights/abs and am seeing the difference!

I weighed myself today and I was 219! I am very excited to be out of the 220s.

I am continuing to eat pretty healthy and minimizing drinking alcohol and diet soda. I've been eating a lot of salads, soups and lentils. The weekends are a bit challenging because I have been visiting the boyfriend's parents, who moved close by, and helping them unpack. Eating delicious Indian food always follows, which at times is not the healthiest. However, I am finding that as long as I plan for this and eat light in the morning everything seems to be working out.

My birthday is next week and I was hoping to be 215 by then. It looks like I will be more around 217 or 218. However, I am still happy with this progress.

My next mini goal I am keeping a little high, and it's to be 210 by the end of October.

September

I have been going to the gym 5-6 times a week for the last 2.5 weeks. I can definitely feel the change in my body as my muscles grow stronger.

I weighed myself today and came in at 223.9, which is slightly more than a few weeks ago. I definitely gained weight Labor day weekend due to celebrating my four year anniversary with my boyfriend.

I am trying to not get too discouraged. In the past I would have lost weight faster. However, if I am consistently going to the gym and eating better, the weight will slowly come off.

I wanted to be at 215 by my birthday (October 5th). I am not sure if I am going to make it but I will definitely try!

Come and Gone

So summer has come and gone. My gym and eating habits have been an up and down. I weighted myself this morning, and I am 223.5. 6 lbs more than the previous fall but about 2-3 lbs less than last week.

My boyfriend seems committed to us going to the gym at 6am most mornings and is being supportive of healthier foods. I hope this helps to give me the encouragement and push to really get my act together.

On a side note, I just bought tickets for a two week trip with one of my best friends to Italy this March. I am REALLY excited and KNOW that I need to LOSE a good amount of weight to fit into small Europe.

I am really committed to be under 200 but the end of this year. This should not be difficult, due to this coming down to losing 6 lbs a month.

Hopefully leaves will not be the only thing falling this season.

Ahhh

It's been too long. I ran a 10k on April 17th. Finished in 1:19, which is a personal best. It was across Crissy Fields in San Francisco, up to the Golden Gate Bridge and across and back again.

I completed Bay to Breakers, a 12k, on May 15th. I speed walked it with my boyfriend and it was a great experience.

Today was my first real day back at the gym since then. I could give lots of excuses as always. However, each day at the gym is a success and my goal is to start having many more.

My work load should be decreasing slightly in a week due to summer break. So that's one great excuse that I can put aside for a couple months. This coming fall and spring are going to be super busy. But let's cross that hurdle when it arrives.

Goal for this week, make it to the gym/exercise at least three more times.

Setbacks and Accomplishment

Here I am… again. I went to Alabama for a week a month ago. The day before my trip I went to the doctor and was weighted at 230. In September I was 217, so 230 is horrible, considering I ran a 5k in December. While I had not been going to the gym as much as I wanted or eaten as well, I did not think this warranted 13 lbs. I have worked out 3x a week for the last 4 weeks and finally stepped on the scale again. It read, 230.

At this point, a voice in my head is screaming: WFT, what is the point? However, I am training for the 12k, Bay to Breakers, so I definitely cannot give up. I am hoping that this next month will be kinder, and that I can curb my urges.

On the brighter side, last week I ran a mile straight (at 13 minutes). I was really excited about this. Yesterday, I ran for 20 minutes straight (1.5 miles), which is an accomplishment that I have not done probably since middle school.
My goal of the week is to make it to the gym 4 times and run 2 miles straight.

Small steps

Day three of eating well, taking vitamins and exercising has gone well thus far. I am feeling pretty good, not wanting to murder anyone for a piece of pizza…yet. I have eaten all meals from home or brought them from home. Snacks have consisted of veggies, fruit, granola and rice cakes.

Last night I almost gave in to temptation. It was a hard day at work and by the time 8pm rolled around I really wanted some fried chicken. However, remembering that I NEED to change my habit NOW I drove past the Safeway without stopping and went home. I heated up 6 chicken nuggets from Trader Joe’s (300 calories) and some veggies (120 calories) for dinner.

I ran on the treadmill on Monday for the first time in a month. My thighs are definitely not happy with me.

I stepped on the Wii this afternoon and it says that I am 226, which is a great feeling! I was originally not going to go to the gym tonight due to my legs still hurting. However, after seeing my progress I went for 30 minutes on the elliptical.

I hope the remainder of the week goes as well!

New Year, Same Goals

Well, here I am again; a new year and the same goal. I stepped on the Wii last night and it read a whopping 231. I was pretty shocked. I knew I might have gained a few pounds, but not that much. This is even more surprising because I trained in October and November for my first 5k race and felt in my best shape in the month of December. Plus, I finished in 40:32, which was a personal best.

I could sit here being depressed about it all (which I am). However, this gets me no where. I could complain about working 60 hours weeks and not having time or being sick for the last month and not having the energy. However, in the end, it is only an excuse.

So let’s talk about goals. I am going to Alabama for a wedding in the end of February and to visit one of my best friends. My first visit to Alabama was years ago, when I was my heaviest at 255. The next year that I visited, I had dropped 60 lbs and they did not recognize me. Fast forward 5 years to my last visit (Summer of 2009). My friend’s grandmother stated upon my visit “Well, you’re just as fat as you were the first time I met you.”

So, my goal for Alabama is to be a size 16 (I am an 18 now) and around 210-215 lbs.

My strategy is to eat less carbs, more veggies and protein and to make it to the gym 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes of cardio, supplemented by weight lighting at home. Additionally, I plan to run another couple of 5ks to keep motivation.

Here’s to a new year with a smaller, more fit me.
